Comparison Thursday: Deep Purple with Gold

First and foremost, I've finally verified all of the winners from the Happy New Year Giveaway!  Unfortunately, there were a lot of entries that didn't follow the instructions and were disqualified.  I'm a bit of a stickler for rules, so make sure you read the whole prompt for the next giveaway to ensure that your entries count!  Without further ado, here are your winners!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Congratulations to those who won, and thank you to all who participated!  Either I or one of the prize sponsors will be in touch with you shortly.  I do giveaways pretty much once a month, if not more, so don't get discouraged if you didn't win!  There are plenty more opportunities on the horizon!

So, after wearing AquaDaisy Purple Heart last week, I wanted to see how close it was to another dark purple with gold glitter jelly I had in my stash - Whimsical Ideas by Pam Peanut Butter and Jelly.  While they are close, they aren't exact duplicates.  Let's take a look below.

First, let's look at the similarities: both have a beautiful dark purple grape jelly base.  The base colors are pretty close to identical, but it's the glitter mix that sets them apart.  All swatches show each polish with one coat over BEGL Toasty Warm under artificial sunlight.

Purple Heart

Purple Heart has a dark grape jelly base with gold and bright pink metallic and holographic hexes and squares.  The added pinks give Purple Heart much more depth than PB&J.  Application was easy with one coat without any dragging or balding.  Granted, it's hard to tell since I'm wearing it over dark undies.  The glitter was a little stingy coming out of the bottle, so it looks much more sparse than PB&J.  I think I like this look a little better, though, because of the pink glitters.  I'm not sure why, but it just feels richer and deeper than the straight gold.  You can purchase AquaDaisy polishes here.  Follow them on Facebook for news and updates.

Peanut Butter & Jelly

PB&J is a gorgeous rich grape jelly with gold glitters in two sizes.  Application was very easy, and the base to glitter ratio is perfect.  It spread evenly without balding or streaking over Toasty Warm.  Dry time was average and the glitters lay flat without extra topcoat.  As I mentioned above, the straight gold and only two sizes of glitter make the polish look like it lacks depth in comparison to Purple Heart.  Alone, and with multiple coats, PB&J looks lovely and quite deep.  It's a gorgeous polish, so I would suggest you grab one while you can!  For ordering information as well as news and updates, check out Whimsical Ideas by Pam's Facebook page!

So, what do you think?  They aren't exact dupes, but I could see being fine with only owning one.  Which do you prefer?

  1. In the bottle I prefer Purple Heart but on the nail PB&J is better.
