Red Coat Tuesday: Elevation Fall-ow Me Up North

Well, tonight's polish isn't quite red, per se, but it's close.  I'm starting to run out of red polishes, so I guess it's either time to buy some more or I'm going to have to start using things that are kind of red for the future, heh.  Who are we kidding.  I'll probably buy more.  Let's get to tonight's Pretty Little Liars Red Coat Tuesday linkup featuring Elevation  SBP Polish Fall-ow Me Up North, which was an amazing surprise gift from my friends MaryJo and Sara!  Also, I'm currently rocking some cuties, which we can discuss in more depth tomorrow!

Fall-ow Me Up North is a small batch prototype from Elevation Polish, which are always highly sought after and a pain in the butt to obtain.  Luckily, I didn't have to do the work for this little baby because it was sweetly gifted to me by friends who were trying to help me feel better after a pretty horrible interview.

FMUP is a lovely orange-leaning coral with red mylar-style flakes.  It's got a bit of a crelly consistency, and I only needed two coats for full coverage.  I used three, though, to make sure there weren't any bald patches in my photos.  

The consistency was great, and it didn't flood my cuticles or get all over the place...  On my swatch hand.  On my right hand, however, it was all over the place.  Cleanup wasn't too hard, but I did have some spots left on my cuticles that I couldn't get off with remover.

Zoya Sookie is a bright almost tomato red creme that is perfectly opaque in two coats.  Application is super easy without the need for much cleanup.  Dry time was average, but I didn't have any issues with adding the glitter topper on top right after applying the undies.

Berry Much in Love is a clear based polish with red hexes and squares, yellow hexes, pink blossoms, green stars, and a bunch of other shapes in red, green, yellow pink.  Application was easy without the need to dab for placement.  Also, the glitter came out of the bottle easily without the need to dig.

Dry time was average, but I did use a quick dry topcoat.  Even though it's a glitter bomb, it's not topcoat hungry, so I only used one coat of KBShimmer's Clearly on Top.

In the end, I didn't love this combo, but that's probably because I didn't love Berry Much in Love as much as I was hoping I would.  It came out during Christmas, so I didn't really feel that its use was all that great outside of Christmas time.  Zoya Sookie, however, is one of my all time favorite reds.  Its perfect brightness and opacity make me super happy.  What do you think?  Do you like this combo?

Red Coat Tuesday: CBL Dirty Diana

First, an update on the kitty!!  He's doing much better! Yesterday, he had his stomach staples and feeding tube removed.  He's acting much more like himself, too, which means lots of loving for me!  Specifically, sleeping on my face at night...  So, now we just have to make sure he eats enough, go back to get him weighed and vitamin B shots, and he's good to go!  Thank you, everyone, for your positive thoughts, vibes, and prayers.  We at the Blue-Eyed Girl household truly appreciate them all!!  Here he is enjoying the afternoon sun :)

For tonight's Red Coat Tuesday, I decided to wear Colors by Llarowe Dirty Diana, which is a lovely berry-leaning burgundy linear holographic.  

Application was easy, and it was mostly opaque in one coat.  I did, however, decide to use two coats for my photos.  It's got a lovely medium consistency that didn't lend to pooling or dragging despite the large brush used by CBL.  I know a lot of people love those large flat brushes, but I just really don't like them.  They make application hard for me since I tend to wear my nails on the shorter side.  Thankfully, the consistency worked in my favor, so I had very little cleanup.

I topped it off with a coat of Seche Vite, which didn't obscure the holo at all.  Dry time was quick, even without the quick dry topcoat.

Even though it's a pretty pigmented red, I didn't have any issues with cleanup or removal.  There wasn't any staining on my nails or my skin, which is great for a red.

I also love that the holo flame is super apparent even in the shade shot.  You don't see that often with most holos.  It just goes to show you exactly how holo this bad boy is.

Red Coat Tuesday: BEGL Addicted to Holos Box

Phew, it's time for another #RedCoatTuesday!!  Tonight's post is pretty special as I will be showing off my polish for the new and upcoming Addicted to Holos Indie Box coming in February!  It's a brand new box that will feature myself (Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer), Literary Lacquers, Philly Loves Lacquer, Sweet Heart Polish, and The Polish Bar.  I'm super excited to be a part of it!  The boxes will come out once every other month with a LE polish from each of the indies listed above!  It will be up for a preorder for a week and will cost $60 plus shipping.  So, since my polish for the February box is red, I decided I'd use it in this week's Red Coat Tuesday post!

Cuts in My Heart is a burgundy linear holographic with silver and red holographic micro glitters.  I used two coats for my photos, but it was completely opaque in one.

It's a bit of a thicker consistency, as with most of my polishes, but it applies easily without the need for cleanup.  I do plan to add a little more thinner to the final batch, but the other bloggers received the batch as I'm using in this post.  It dries with a slight texture because of the micros, but that's nothing that one coat of topcoat won't fix.

Red Coat Tuesday: Pahlish Blood of the Mountain

Holy wow, you guys!  I'm going on almost a full month of blogging!  I can't believe it!  I really do think that moving away from my uber detailed review has been helpful in the long run...  While I do miss the info dump, I'm hoping I still give you guys enough information to really get the gist of a polish.

Guess what time it is???  It's #RedCoatTueday!  I totally missed the premiere last week, so this is my first mani getting back into the swing of things.  I'm also missing the link up, so I'll add that as soon as I get it.  This week's episode!!!  Omg!!!  All I'll say is Jason.  Mmm mmm mmm, Jason, hah!  Ok, sorry, let's get back on track and take a look at tonight's offering, Pahlish Blood of the Mountain with an accent of Lynnderella Tidy Whities.

Let me just say this up front...  I'm not in love with this combo by any means.  It was one of those things where I thought it would look good in my head, but as soon as it was on my nails I knew I was wrong.  Oh well!  I'm not going to let perfectly good photos go to waste!  Let's take a look, shall we?

Blood of the Mountain is a burgundy/ox blood linear holographic with golden flakies and some on-tone red holo glitters.  Application was a bit rough.  BotM has a super thick consistency, so it was a bit gloopy for me.  The consistency made it difficult to apply, so it looks (and was) quite a bit thicker than I usually like.

Thankfully, it was self-leveling, so it looks smooth even though it was anything but when I applied it.  Because it's a thicker formula, it also took some time to dry.  Lastly, it dried a bit textured and rough because of all of the extra flakies and glitters in it.  I'm used to this and don't mind it, though.  I only needed to use one coat of KBShimmer's Clearly on Top to give it a glossy look.

Tidy Whities is a white shimmered base packed with rainbow iridescent glitters as well as large (read chunky) matte and satin white glitters in various shapes and sizes.  The shimmered base gives it a bit of a milky feel even though it's not really a crelly or colored base.  It's just so extremely shimmered that it didn't really play well with the red undies.

Application was much like many other Lynnderellas, meaning that it's so packed with glitter that it's a bit thick, dense, and required dabbing to get even coverage.  The glitters were so densely packed into the bottle that they were very easy to get out - even the larger shapes.  The bar glitters didn't curl up, either, which is fantastic, because they usually do and that drives me insane.  I used an extra coat of topcoat to make it smooth and glossy.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!  For those who don't, happy belated Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Festivus, Happy Solstice, Happy Yule, and just a plain old Happy End of the Year to everyone!  Normally, I do comparisons on Thursdays, but I'm going to show you guys a few of my Christmas manis from this year instead!

Christmas Ornament Mani

I used three Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquers as well as a gold Sephora pen for this design.  For the undies, I used Untrodden Snow.  For the holly and leaves, I used Mickey Smith Defending the Earth and You Just Want to Mate?!  I modeled this manicure after my all time favorite ornament that we used as our inspiration for all of the decorations in our house!

Christmas Tree Mani

I apologize for the photos on this one because, honestly, I took them with my iPhone, lol!  Here, I used Literary Lacquer's 1000 Christmas Trees and Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Grandpa.  To make the Christmas Tree, I used some striping tape and the LL.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Mani

For this manicure, I decided I'd go with something bright, flamboyant, and not quite Christmasy, per se.  For this mani, I used Smitten's In October We Wear Pink topped with accents of Lynnderella Sugar Plum Pink from the 2012 advent LE collection.  This is another pic taken with my phone, which I haven't quite mastered due to my shaky hands.

Tacky Winter Sweater

I did another untraditional mani, but this time I went with a polish based off of the love of tacky winter sweaters, which happens to be the name of this polish!  BEGL Tacky Winter Sweater is a hot pink crelly base packed with snowflakes, diamonds, and glitters in various other shapes.  And yet another mani taken with my phone instead of my real camera!

Matte Glitter Gradient

For this mani, I used OPI Feel the Mo-heat-toes Green topped with a glitter gradient with Lynnderella Merry Ferry, and then topped with NYC Matte Topcoat.  Again, I apologize for this photo because I took it on my phone!  Here, I'm showing off my mani with a lovely beer by the Bruery called Seven Swans a Swimming, which is an amazing Belgian Quad!

Christmas Skittles

It's a very Lynnderella Christmas!  For this look, I used BEGLs, and RBL, an OPI, an EvP, and a metric-butt ton of Lynnderellas!  From thumb to pinkie - OPI L.A.M.B. topped with Lynnderella Change; BEGL Grandpa topped with Lynnderella Happy Holodaze; BEGL Siren's a Special Snowflake topped with Lynnderella Holo-day Hearts; RBL Gondoliere topped with Lynnderella Fire in the Jelly; and Elevation Wuyi Mountain topped with Lynnderella the Mindful Heart.

Candy Cane Tape Mani 

For this mani, I decided to go with a classic look that I've been seeing around town (i.e. on IG by Nail Polish Wars and Pointless Cafe- I know there have been more, but I can't find them now!).  I used two coats of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Dogwood because it has that shimmer that really makes it look candy-like.  I then topped it with Seche Vite, used my striping tape to tape off some lines, and topped that with BEGL You Just Want to Mate?! and another coat of Seche Vite.

Vampy Reds

I'm so glad to be back and going strong, two days in a row!  Hah!  Enough of the chit chat, let's get to the polish.  Tonight, I've paired together one of my favorite Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquers with a lovely Lynnderella Special Edition!  Let's take a look!

I've already done a review of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Toasty Warm, which you can read here.  Instead, we'll be focusing on Lynnderella Glitter in Her Blood.

GHIB is a blackened jelly base packed with red and black micro glitters in both metallic and holographic. GHIB actually reaches full coverage in two coats!  Here, I used three thin coats to ensure that my photos didn't show any bald spots that my eyes didn't catch.

The glitter applies easily even though it's a thicker formula.  It's actually nice to have a thicker formula for microglitters, though, because it helps with accuracy of application.

I am a huge fan of microglitters, as you might have realized, and Glitter in Her Blood is no exception.  While it's a tad thick, I actually appreciated the thickness because it made application accuracy much easier.  I was easily able to apply without any pooling on my cuticles.  Dry time is pretty long, though, which is probably due to the fact that I had to use two coats of topcoat to get a smooth and glassy finish.  I love the holo bits in this one, too, and how it doesn't overpower the look.
