Comparison Thursday: Peachy-Orange OPI Holos

This week's comparison is a look at a few peach and orange holos I have from OPI.  All of these are discontinued and hard to find, unfortunately, but I still wanted to show them to you guys anyway.  Mainly because I wanted to see how they compared, so you guys get to reap the benefit!  Let's take a look.

Day at the Peach, DS Vintage, Coral Reef, DS Couture

I wanted to make sure that the holo flames weren't adversely affected by the use of topcoat, so I went without.  No topcoat on any of the polishes equals awful dry times.  

Day at the Peach

DatP has a super thin consistency.  Because of this thin consistency, it has a tendency to pool, but the smaller brush makes it easier to apply.  It's one of the older Summer for Shore Collection polishes, so it's got a fine holo particle.  Surprisingly, it was opaque in two coats, but I used three for my photos. I thought that it would take much more to build to opacity since the consistency was so runny.  And as I mentioned earlier, the dry time long without a quick dry topcoat.

DS Vintage

DS Vintage is one of the newer polishes, so it's got the new brush style.  The fat OPI brush makes application a little difficult on short nails, which is why I detest those fat flat brushes.  As compared to DatP, it's got a bit thicker consistency, so it's less likely to pool.  The DS line all have a larger holo particle than the Summer for Shore collection.  It's closest in color to DatP, but they're definitely not dupes.  It was easily opaque at two coats.  Again, dry time was long because I didn't use a quick dry topcoat.

Coral Reef

CR is another Summer for Shore polish, so it's a bit thin like DatP, but it doesn't pool as much.  It's very orange as compared to the others in this grouping.  CR has a fine holo particle like the rest of the Summer for Shore collection.  It's opaque in two coats, but I used three for my photos.  It's probably obvious now, but dry time was long because no topcoat.

DS Couture

DS Couture is one of the newer bottles so it's got that thicker OPI brush, which makes application difficult, like with Vintage.  It's on the thicker side, but there is still a tendency to pool on my skin.  Couture is the most red of the bunch.  It's also the most pigmented, and was easily opaque in one coat.  However, I used two coats for my photos.  Dry time was long, but not quite as bad as the others because I was able to do thinner coats due to the high pigmentation in this polish.

So, there you have it!  Those are all of my peachy-orange OPI holos.  I think my favorite is Couture because it's just so vibrant and fun.  Which is your favorite?

Comparison Thursday: Light Green Cremes

Time for another comparison!  Now, I've already done a light green creme comparison, which you can see here.  However, it wasn't very good and didn't include pretty much any of these polishes.  So, we get Light Green Cremes Part 2!

Elevation Polish Mount Yu, OPI Feel the Mo-Heat-Toes Green, OPI Damone Roberts 1968, and OPI Thanks a Windmillion.

Mount Yu

Mount Yu is the only shimmer in the bunch.  It's definitely sheer, but not the most sheer of the batch.  Application was easy, but it had a streaky first coat.  I absolutely love this brush because it's the thinnest of the group, which makes application much easier.  It achieved opacity in three coats.  Dry time was a bit on the longer side, but I used a quick dry topcoat for my photos.  Sadly Mount Yu has been discontinued, but you can purchase other Elevations here.

Feel the Mo-Heat-Toes Green

Mo-Heat-Toes was the sheerest of the bunch.  It's closest in color to Mount Yu minus the shimmer, but they're not duplicates.  It's almost a jelly or crelly.  The first coat is streaky, but the formula was great and didn't flood my cuticles despite the giant brush.  It was pretty much opaque in three coats, but I did four just in case my camera picked up bald patches that I couldn't see myself.  Dry time without a topcoat is average, but I used a quick dry topcoat for my photos.  Mo-Heat-Toes was a Cosmoprof exclusive polish, but I do believe you can find the minis at TJ Maxx.

Damone Roberts 1968

The base color of DR falls right in the middle of Mo-Heat-Toes and Windmillion, but it leans way more yellow than any of the polishes in this grouping.  It is much more pigmented than the first two, but also a little thinner than them formula-wise.  Sadly, the thinner formula made application with OPI's giant brush a giant pain in the butt.  Luckily, I only needed two coats for full coverage, but I used three coats for my photos.  Dry time without a topcoat is average, but I used a quick dry topcoat for my photos.  I purchased this straight from the DR website here.  It's a bit pricier than most OPIs, but it was one that was discontinued for quite a while.

Thanks a Windmillion

TaW is the darkest of the group and leans a little more dusty-sage than the vibrant green of the other three.  It has hands down the best formula of the group, with easy application and almost opaque in one coat.  I'm sure if I did a thicker coat, I could easily do one coat.  I did two coats for full opacity in my photos.  Dry time without a topcoat is average, but I used a quick dry topcoat for my photos.  TaW was part of the Holland release a few years ago, so it's no longer being produced.  However, you can still find it easily in most drug stores or salon supply shops.

Oldie but Goodie: Old Swatch Roundup

It's time for the next installment of the Old Swatch Roundup!  I've got a MILLION photos of gorgeous polishes that need to be reviewed, but I've taken so long to actually do anything with these photos that I don't remember anything about the actual polish!  D'oh!  My solution?  I'll just toss a bunch of older swatches into one post a month without an actual review!  By the way, I've been keeping notes on application for all of the recent swatches I've done to ensure that I don't forget when it's time for the review.  I can't let my laziness deter from proper reviews!  Ok, let's take a look!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!  For those who don't, happy belated Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Festivus, Happy Solstice, Happy Yule, and just a plain old Happy End of the Year to everyone!  Normally, I do comparisons on Thursdays, but I'm going to show you guys a few of my Christmas manis from this year instead!

Christmas Ornament Mani

I used three Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquers as well as a gold Sephora pen for this design.  For the undies, I used Untrodden Snow.  For the holly and leaves, I used Mickey Smith Defending the Earth and You Just Want to Mate?!  I modeled this manicure after my all time favorite ornament that we used as our inspiration for all of the decorations in our house!

Christmas Tree Mani

I apologize for the photos on this one because, honestly, I took them with my iPhone, lol!  Here, I used Literary Lacquer's 1000 Christmas Trees and Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Grandpa.  To make the Christmas Tree, I used some striping tape and the LL.

Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy Mani

For this manicure, I decided I'd go with something bright, flamboyant, and not quite Christmasy, per se.  For this mani, I used Smitten's In October We Wear Pink topped with accents of Lynnderella Sugar Plum Pink from the 2012 advent LE collection.  This is another pic taken with my phone, which I haven't quite mastered due to my shaky hands.

Tacky Winter Sweater

I did another untraditional mani, but this time I went with a polish based off of the love of tacky winter sweaters, which happens to be the name of this polish!  BEGL Tacky Winter Sweater is a hot pink crelly base packed with snowflakes, diamonds, and glitters in various other shapes.  And yet another mani taken with my phone instead of my real camera!

Matte Glitter Gradient

For this mani, I used OPI Feel the Mo-heat-toes Green topped with a glitter gradient with Lynnderella Merry Ferry, and then topped with NYC Matte Topcoat.  Again, I apologize for this photo because I took it on my phone!  Here, I'm showing off my mani with a lovely beer by the Bruery called Seven Swans a Swimming, which is an amazing Belgian Quad!

Christmas Skittles

It's a very Lynnderella Christmas!  For this look, I used BEGLs, and RBL, an OPI, an EvP, and a metric-butt ton of Lynnderellas!  From thumb to pinkie - OPI L.A.M.B. topped with Lynnderella Change; BEGL Grandpa topped with Lynnderella Happy Holodaze; BEGL Siren's a Special Snowflake topped with Lynnderella Holo-day Hearts; RBL Gondoliere topped with Lynnderella Fire in the Jelly; and Elevation Wuyi Mountain topped with Lynnderella the Mindful Heart.

Candy Cane Tape Mani 

For this mani, I decided to go with a classic look that I've been seeing around town (i.e. on IG by Nail Polish Wars and Pointless Cafe- I know there have been more, but I can't find them now!).  I used two coats of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Dogwood because it has that shimmer that really makes it look candy-like.  I then topped it with Seche Vite, used my striping tape to tape off some lines, and topped that with BEGL You Just Want to Mate?! and another coat of Seche Vite.
